• AP Courses:

Jefferson Parish Public Schools offer advanced coursework to provide rigorous high school courses to all students. Advanced coursework refers to classes that provide students with the opportunity to earn college credit in high school (students should consult with the college/university they plan to attend for specific information on the awarding of credit). Such coursework includes, but is not limited to, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, dual enrollment, and CLEP testing.

Mission: We provide the education our students deserve to succeed in life and make our world a better place.

Students and parents should understand the following about Honors/Advanced Placement Courses:

    1. Students are expected to be independent learners-willing to read, learn, ask questions, pursue outside reading and research, and integrate and discuss material from diverse sources.

    2. Students are expected to complete all work with integrity and in the time frame given.

    3. If the student does not complete the Honors project and/or assessment, he or she will not receive Honors credit for the course.

    4. Students are expected to take the exam at the conclusion of the course (date to be announced).

    5. If the student fails to take the AP/IB exam, he or she will not receive Honors credit for the course and will be required to pay an unused exam fee for missing the exam (fee varies by exam).

    6. It is the student’s responsibility to pay for the AP exam unless he or she receives free or reduced lunch.

    7. If the student scores a 3 or higher (on a scale of 1 to 5) on the AP exam, it is possible to receive college credit for the class, depending on the university. If the student has an AP score of 3 or higher on file, the student may not be required to take the assessment at the end of the course.

    8. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that the college of his or her choice has the appropriate information to award credit for the AP class if the student is eligible.

    9. Behavior such as accruing excessive absences or cutting classes can result in the student not only losing Honors credit, but also in losing all credit for the course.

All students registered in an AP course must sign the Contract for Advanced Level Courses and return to their counselor.
