Mission:
The mission of Walter G. Schneckenburger Elementary School is to work as a collaborative team to address the academic and social needs of all students.
Walter G. Schneckenburger Elementary opened its doors in 1976. The school was named after Walter G. Schneckenburger, a well-known and respected civic leader, educator and coach from Kenner. The school was designed as an open-classroom model with two kivas: The Primary Kiva and the Intermediate Kiva; and the Library is located between the two kivas. The Computer Lab was opened in 1997 with the help of grants. The Schneckenburger Elementary PTO has helped to purchase software and pay the salary of the Lab teacher. Currently, the school maintains a diverse student population of 450, consisting of regular and special education students. Our ESL students come from Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Jordan, Nicaragua, Vietnam, Jerusalem, Peru, and Palenstine. The fully certified faculty and staff number 70, with a wide variety of classifications, duties, and talents, strive to provide the learning environment necessary for all students to achieve academic excellence and become lifelong learners.
