JP Schools Family,

We can accomplish anything by working together, and one way we will continue to be successful is with authentic and regular engagement with our stakeholders. Two-way communication helps us be better for our students. That’s why I am excited to continue engaging with our employees, families, and community members this school year. This month, we kicked off our six Superintendent Councils for students, families, teachers, principals, English Learners, and special education.

We continued our Discovery Days and next week, we’re hosting our second Listen & Learn Town Hall at Hazel Park/Hilda Knoff Elementary. These events give us the opportunity to hear about what’s working and what’s not, address concerns, and learn about how we can continue to grow.

We also have a lot to celebrate this month. Katie Tran, a student at Patrick F. Taylor Science & Technology Academy, was surprised earlier this month with a $40,000 BigFuture Scholarship. She made history as the first student in Louisiana to win this scholarship, and we can’t wait to see what she’ll do in the future to help make our world a better place. October is National Principals Month, so I would like to recognize our principals for their hard work and dedication. Their leadership has allowed us to make the gains we’ve seen with our students these last few years. October is also Hispanic Heritage Month, and with 37% of our students being Hispanic, it’s important to recognize the diversity of our student population and celebrate the many cultures we have in our schools.

Everything we do in Jefferson Parish Schools is aimed at moving the children of this parish forward for years to come, and we appreciate the continued support of our families, employees, and community to make that happen. Thank you for the part you play in making sure our students are successful.
